Skills
The role
Relevium Medical is looking to hire a Synthetic Chemist who has recently completed (or is close to completing) a PhD in Organic/Synthetic Chemistry. This is an ideal first industry role for someone who is highly practical in the lab, confident running reactions independently, and eager to apply strong synthetic skills to real drug development programs.
We are recruiting a Synthetic Chemist with a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science to join an active drug development programme, supporting process scale-up and technology transfer of polymer and large-molecule materials into manufacturing.
This is not a purely exploratory research role. Instead, you'll work on established drug candidates, helping translate lab-scale chemistry into robust, transferable processes in close collaboration with the CMC Lead and Senior Polymer Chemist.
What you'll do
- Support process scale-up of polymer or macromolecular materials used in current drug programmes
- Assist with technology transfer activities to partner manufacturing facilities
- Execute and optimise synthetic and modification steps for polymers and large molecules at increasing scale
- Work closely with the CMC Lead and Senior Polymer Chemist on test method development and material characterization
- Characterize materials using NMR, HPLC, GPC/SEC, UV-Vis, and related analytical tools
- Contribute to understanding structure-property relationships relevant to processing and performance
- Maintain clear, accurate, and traceable laboratory records in line with GMP/GLP and data integrity standards
- Prepare technical documentation and reports to support CMC and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with analytical, formulation, and external manufacturing partners
- Maintain safe, organised laboratory practices
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Early-career scientist keen to apply PhD knowledge in a real drug development setting
- Interested in process understanding, scale-up, and manufacturing translation rather than purely academic research
- Methodical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working within structured programmes
- Strong team player who collaborates effectively across functions and contributes to a positive, knowledge-sharing environment
- Motivated to learn CMC and pharmaceutical development practices
